Below are descriptions about the different general education field placements I have been in and links to the evaluations that I received from being in those field placements.
Z-Quest - Kindergarten - Zach Adams
In the Spring of 2017, I had the opportunity to have a field placement in an elementary school that focuses on Project Based Learning (PBL). I was placed with Zach Adams who is the kindergarten teacher. Z-Quest is a school that is part of Zeeland Public Schools but they run their school differently. They focus on Project Based Learning and have a year-round calendar. During my field placement, I planned and taught multiple math and social studies lessons. I also had the opportunity to observe and help Zach with the PBLs that his class was doing. Throughout my time in Zach's classroom, I was able to take over the daily routines and pull students out to help with targeted instruction.
In the Fall of 2015, I had the opportunity to have a field placement in an elementary school. I was placed with Jill Bert who is a second-grade teacher at Holland East. In the field placement, I taught a few English lessons and I was able to run a reading group. During this placement I observed Jill and I helped out in the classroom in any way possible. I was able to see the things I was learning about in my Literacy 1 class play out in her classroom.
First Presbyterian Preschool - Preschool (4/5 year olds) - Megan Heller
In the Fall of 2014, I had the opportunity to have my first field placement, during my first semester of college, in a preschool. I was placed with Megan Heller who is the 4/5-year-old preschool teacher for the First Presbyterian Preschool. In this field placement, I was able to 'get my feet wet' and observe and help out a real teacher. This placement reaffirmed that I wanted to be in the education field. Throughout the field placement, I was able to observe Megan and see how she ran her classroom. I was also able to apply what I was learning in my Educational Psychology class to my field placement.
