Below are descriptions about the different special education field placements I have been in and links to the evaluations that I received from being in those field placements.
Jenison Junior High - Resource Room - Aaron Boersma
In the Spring of 2017, I had the opportunity to have a field placement in a junior high. I was placed with Aaron Boersma who is a resource teacher for seventh and eighth graders. He pushes into a couple of science classes and teaches a couple of Fusion English classes to at-risk students and students with Learning Disabilities. Throughout this field placement, I had the opportunity to plan and teach five lessons in addition to Aaron having me take over lessons and classroom tasks for him. While I was this field placement I was in his seventh grade Fusion class and his Study Skills class. Some things that Aaron had me take over in his Fusion class was 'Good Things', the daily Vocabulary Process, News Report, and reading the class book with the students. In Aaron's Study Skills class, I took over checking the students' planners and their grades online to check for missing work. Throughout the semester I completed a case study on a student in my placement for a class assignment.
West Ottawa High School - Resource Room - Jennifer Brenner
In the Fall of 2016, I had the opportunity to have a field placement in a high school. I was placed with Jennifer Brenner who is a math resource teacher for 9th-12th graders. During the day she would push into Geometry and Extended Algebra classes and she had a group of students come to her room for a geometry class. While I was there we went to a Geometry class and an Extended Algebra class. Throughout this field placement, I was able to observe co-teaching and help students with their math. While I was in this field placement I was able to apply what I was learning in my Introduction to Learning Disabilities class.
North Holland Elementary - Resource Room - Deirdre Vriesman
In the Spring of 2015, I had the opportunity to have a field placement in an elementary school. I was placed with Deirdre Vriesman who is a kindergarten through fourth-grade resource teacher. Throughout the day she pulls groups of students out of class to come work with her. I had the opportunity to help with her and observe her work with her students. While I was in this field placement I was able to see what I was learning in my Exceptional Child class used in a real classroom.
